Tom’s Cheesy Scones

Tom loves scones. Especially a cheesy scone. So I decided to invent Tom’s Cheesy Scones – my dog friendly cheesy scone recipe to bake at home and take out for picnics. Mummy’s favourite scone recipe is Nigel Slater’s big cheese scone recipe from Dish of the Day, so we adapted Nigel’s recipe to create this deliciously cheesy dog friendly scone recipe.

Here’s Tom’s Cheesy Scone recipe for you to enjoy my friends …

What you need to make Tom’s cheesy scones …

  • 115g Doves Gluten Free Plain White Flour (other flours are available but we love baking with the Doves Farm range)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 20ml sunflower oil*
  • 85 ml milk
  • 65g grated cheese

*we used sunflower oil because we had some spare in the cupboard but are looking forward to trying these with olive oil and rapeseed oil.

This recipe makes 6 – 8 medium sized scones of cheesy yummyness.

How to make Tom’s cheesy scones …

  1. Mix the flour and baking powder in a bowl.
  2. Add the oil, stir and rub into flour.
  3. Gradually add the milk and stir with a wooden spoon until the ingredients are combined.
  4. Sprinkle in the grated cheese, reserving a little bit for the top of the scones.
  5. Lightly knead the grated cheese into the scone mix.
  6. Turn out the cheesy scone ball onto a floured surface.
  7. Gently press down to about 1 inch thickness (don’t roll it).
  8. Cut out your cheesy scones with a small / medium sized scone cutter.
  9. Place the cheesy scones on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  10. Brush milk on top of the cheesy scones.
  11. Sprinkle grated cheese on top of the scones for extra cheesy yummyness.
  12. Bake your scones in the oven 200 degrees c for 10 – 15 minutes until golden on top.
  13. Place the cheesy scones on a cooling rack to cool.
  14. Eat cheesy scones. Go on … try one warm. Yummy.
