Tillie's tuna cake

Tillie’s tuna cake

Tillie loves tuna cake! I mean I really love tuna cake. In a taste test in the woods the other day I chose tuna cake over a whole lot of other yummy treats every time. So whilst Tom is responsible for writing most of the recipes on our blog, I thought I would put on my chefs hat and share with you Tillie’s tuna cake recipe. It’s quick and easy to make and very yummylicious to eat.

Here’s what you need to make Tillie’s tuna cake recipe …

  • A bowl
  • A little tin of tuna in oil (you know, the little 200g or so tin)
  • 2 eggs
  • A spoon
  • Some Doves Farm Plain wholemeal flour (other flours are available but we love Doves Farm flours)
  • Some oil
  • A small tray lined with baking paper
  • An oven set at 180 degrees celsius

Other brands of tuna, rapeseed oil and flour are available … but we always use Jimmy’s free range eggs

Here’s what you do to make Tillie’s tuna cake recipe …

  1. Open the tin of tuna and pour all the contents in a bowl, including the oil.
  2. Mash up the tuna and oil a bit.
  3. Break the eggs into the tuna and oil.
  4. Mix it up.
  5. Add about 3 to 5 dessert spoons of flour. We use plain organic wholemeal because we’re healthy.
  6. Mix it all up.
  7. The mix should be like a gloopylicious batter – a bit like a cake batter. Well, it is a cake.
  8. If it’s too dry, add some more oil to loosen it up. We like to use Rapeseed oil. If it’s too wet, add some more flour.
  9. Pour the tuna cake batter into the lined tray and spread it out to maximum 1cm thickness. We use a small rectangle tray bake baking tray.
  10. Pop it in the oven.
  11. Bake it for about 15 minutes until it feels firm-ish in the middle and springs back when you poke it.
  12. Turn it out onto a cooling rack and let it cool.

Tillie’s tuna cake fresh out of the oven. The smell of freshly baked tuna cake is amazing.

We use tuna cake when we are out training so we cut off small cubes to take out with us. Tom likes to play catch the tuna cake in the field but I think that’s a stupid game. But it keeps him entertained which is the main thing. Tuna cake is also good for a game of sprinkles.
